Make faith your greatest treasure
“The purpose of our life is to please Allah.”
Because Allah’s blessings and the afterlife are greater than worldly concerns, Muslims should treat iman as their greatest treasure, establish salah, follow the Prophet’s Sunnah, cultivate gentle character, and maintain daily remembrance while serving others.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah’s blessings, human dignity, and iman are presented as reasons for gratitude.
- The purpose of life is worship, preparation for the eternal akhirah, and following the Prophet’s Sunnah.
- Listeners are urged to establish daily prayer and invite others to the masjid with wisdom.
- Good character, gentleness, and kindness toward others are described as essential parts of the deen.
- Daily Qur’an reading, dhikr, istighfar, salawat, and post-prayer tasbih are recommended.
- The closing encourages sharing Islam, helping Gaza and Palestine, and contributing technical skills to community work.
In the khateeb's words
“All of these are needs and necessities. They're not the purpose of our life. The purpose of our life is to please Allah.”
“And it has to be done in a humble way, not in a way that we have disdain for the person who is not coming to the masjid,”
“Nothing will be heavier than the scales on the Day of Judgment than good akhlaa and good character.”
“These are the currency of our akhira. These are the good deeds that will benefit us in our grave.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah has given us countless blessings, especially the gift of Islam and faith. He encouraged us to remember that this life is temporary and to prepare for the Hereafter through choices that please Allah. He emphasized taking care of our prayers and inviting others to the masjid with humility and encouragement. He also reminded us that good character matters deeply, including being gentle and kind with our families, neighbors, and coworkers. Reading the Quran, remembering Allah, asking His forgiveness, and sending blessings upon the Prophet can become regular parts of our day.
- Which blessing are you especially thankful for today, and how could you show your thanks?
- What could you say to invite a friend to the masjid and help them feel welcome?
