For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah drew lessons from the stories in Surah al-Kahf. We should trust Allah while also taking sensible steps to protect ourselves. We should thank Allah for our blessings instead of assuming they came only from our own talent or effort, and we should return to Him with regret when we do wrong. Musa’s journey teaches us to seek knowledge with patience and humility, while the stories remind us that difficult events may contain wisdom we cannot yet see. Like Dhul-Qarnayn, we should use what Allah gives us to help people without demanding worldly payment.

  1. Where can we trust Allah and still take a wise safety step?
  2. What blessing can we thank Allah for today?
  3. How could we help someone this week without expecting a reward?
