True brotherhood means correcting one another

“Sometimes you have to move yourself out of opportunities.”

The khateeb, at 19:29

In one sentence

True brotherhood requires choosing righteous companions and lovingly correcting one another so that we do not enable sin or oppression and can reach Jannah together.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that being a good friend means wanting what is best for someone’s faith and life. We should not quietly encourage harmful behavior or ignore oppression when we can help. Good advice should be based on knowledge and offered with gentleness and patience, preferably in private. We also need humility to listen when others correct us. The sermon ends by calling us to prayer, positive action, patience, and righteous companionship.

  1. When is it hard to speak up for someone, and what might help us do it kindly?
  2. Which people or activities help you become a better Muslim?
  3. How can we give advice without embarrassing someone, and how can we receive it well?
