Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Dec 19, 2025.

Every step should lead toward Jannah

“Is it in obedience to Allah or in disobedience to Allah?”

The khateeb, at 28:23

In one sentence

A believer should treat the passport as a reminder that every aspect of life is moving toward accountability before Allah, so daily choices should prepare for Jannah.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Reframes the passport photo and temporary life as reminders to compete in good deeds.
  2. Uses the name field to ask whether one’s community will remember them with gratitude and honor.
  3. Uses the address field to focus on the grave and permanent destination in the Hereafter.
  4. Uses scanning and a GoPro analogy to emphasize that every deed is recorded.
  5. Uses the expiry date to discuss lifespan, provision, death, and the difficulty of righteous choices.
  6. Uses visa stamps to ask whether each step is toward obedience and Jannah.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah used a passport as a picture of our journey through life and into the Hereafter. Our photo, name, address, scan, expiry date, and visa became reminders that our character, deeds, destination, lifespan, and daily choices all matter before Allah. We should try to be people our neighbors and coworkers remember as honest, trustworthy, punctual, clean, and helpful. We can guard our eyes, ears, words, and choices, ask whether each step pleases Allah, and return to Him honestly when we fall. The hopeful message is that sincere repentance can become a new beginning and a second birthday.

  1. Will your neighbor miss you? Will your co-workers testify for you?
  2. What choice this week would make you proud of the video you are creating?
  3. How can you make your next step one of obedience to Allah?
