Worship Allah in every part of life
“Study hard, yes, but study to serve.”
In one sentence
Our true purpose is to worship Allah by living consciously for Him in every part of life, redirecting study, work, and success toward serving the ummah and preparing for the Hereafter.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The speaker’s father’s question about purpose exposes how education and career goals can become self-serving and detached from Allah and the ummah.
- Surah al-Dhariyat defines human purpose as worship, while Allah alone provides what people chase materially.
- Worship extends beyond rituals to Allah-conscious study, halal work, patient parenting, and masjid service.
- Turning away from Allah’s remembrance produces a constricted, unfulfilled life and weakens the ummah amid suffering in Sudan and Palestine.
- The dunya is temporary, so listeners should study, work, and live well with the aim of serving, uplifting, and building for Jannah.
- The khutbah closes by asking listeners to identify their purpose and pursue lasting good such as sadaqah jariyah.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words

“Worship here Means to live Conscious of Allah In your everyday life In every moment of your life With every decision you take With every breath you take”
“Worship isn't just an act It's an identity for us That's what separates us as muslimin”

Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that our deepest purpose is to worship Allah. Worship includes prayer and fasting, but it also means remembering Allah while studying, working, raising children, and serving the masjid. Money, careers, and success can be good, but they should support a greater purpose rather than become our whole purpose. This world is temporary, so we should build for Jannah and leave behind lasting good. When we live for Allah and care about the ummah, our lives gain meaning and our communities grow stronger.
- What is one ordinary thing you do that could become worship if you changed your intention?
- What does it look like to study or work in order to serve others?
- If this world is like a hotel, what should we focus on before we leave?
