Prayer shows gratitude for Allah's guidance
“Without Allah we have no value.”
Because Muslims depend on Allah for guidance and purpose, they should demonstrate gratitude through congregational prayer, prepare seriously for Dhul Hijjah, and seek steadfastness through worship and dua.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Uses a phone analogy to argue that people lack purpose and guidance without Allah.
- Recalls the Sahaba’s Hijrah and regret over missing Badr to stress acting on available knowledge.
- Urges greater commitment to Isha and Fajr prayers in congregation, especially because Fajr shapes the day.
- Calls for preparation for the ten days of Dhul Hijjah through prayer, Quran study, tafsir, lectures, and biographies.
- Concludes with supplications for Hajj pilgrims, oppressed Muslims, rain, forgiveness, guidance, and steadfastness.
In the khateeb's words
“we are very very similar to that without Allah we have no value we have no guidance we have no campus we can't navigate and Allah is so generous with us”
“salatu al-fajr is just like your day everything in your day will follow you just like the camel”
“we need to show Allah ta'ala that we need Him we need to show Allah ta'ala that we are listening that we appreciating the blessing of islam the blessing of guidance the blessing of masjid the blessing of brotherhood”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that a phone with no charge cannot do what it was made to do, and people also need Allah for guidance and purpose. He encouraged us to show gratitude for Islam by guarding our prayers, especially Isha and Fajr in congregation. He asked us to prepare for the ten days of Dhul Hijjah by strengthening our routines, understanding the Quran, and learning from the Prophet and the Sahaba. He ended by making dua for Hajj pilgrims, mercy and guidance, rain, and Muslims facing suffering in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, and elsewhere. The message was to use the blessings and knowledge we already have and keep turning back to Allah.
- What helps your day start well after Fajr?
- What is one good habit you could prepare before Dhul Hijjah?
- How can our family remember and support people who are suffering?
