For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah uses familiar things, like rain, plants, and falling leaves, to help us understand life. Just as green leaves eventually fade and fall, our time in this world will come to an end, sometimes unexpectedly. The khateeb warned us against becoming so busy competing and collecting things that we forget the lasting life after death. He explained that we can enjoy Allah’s blessings and work for a living while keeping our hearts from becoming attached to worldly things. As a family, we can let the changing leaves remind us to think about our choices and what we are preparing for our meeting with Allah.

  1. What could a fallen leaf remind you about from today’s khutbah?
  2. How can we enjoy the things we have without making them the most important part of our lives?
