Unity and purity transform the community
“They will be pure, but they will purify others.”
Following Muhammad and the Ahlul Bayt means persevering on a balanced path of guidance, strengthening communal unity, and using everyday purification to cultivate taqwa that transforms society.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Frames the khutbah around living and dying according to Muhammad and the Ahlul Bayt
- Explains the exceptional value of remaining on Allah’s path
- Presents unity and solidarity as divine blessings threatened by Shaytan and hardship
- Encourages collective dua for the community’s strength and unity
- Advises taqwa as consciousness of Allah in every action
- Uses wudu, ghusl, and tayammum to teach inward as well as outward purification
- Calls believers to become pure themselves and purifying influences in their homes and communities
In the khateeb's words
“Your unity Your solidarity Is a blessing Is a rahmah from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“Take a moment that as you're making wudhu And realize that this water that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has sent down One is tuhoora.”
“Not only purifying themselves that they will be pure, but they will purify others.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that following the path of Allah, the Prophet, and the Ahlul Bayt is deeply valuable, even when it is difficult. Unity, brotherhood, and reminding one another about Allah bring blessing, while division brings harm. He encouraged the community to stay together, pray collectively, and trust that Allah can bless sincere effort beyond our expectations. He also taught that wudhu is more than washing our bodies: it is an opportunity to purify our hearts with God-consciousness and certainty. When we work on becoming pure ourselves, we can bring goodness and healing into our homes, community, and wider society.
- What is one thing you can do this week to make your family or community more united?
- What could you think about during wudhu to help prepare your heart for prayer?
- Who has been a positive, purifying influence in your life, and what did that person do?
