How to protect yourself from the Dajjal
“Whoever memorizes 10 verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.”
The Dajjal will be the greatest trial before the Day of Judgment, and Muslims must protect themselves through knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah, prophetic supplication, distance from fitna, and the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- The Dajjal is the greatest trial before the Hour, and every prophet warned his people.
- Description of the Dajjal: one-eyed, 'kafir' written on his forehead, swift, on earth for forty days, barred from Mecca and Medina.
- His deceptions: paradise-and-fire illusion, demons as deceased parents, and killing then reviving the steadfast young believer.
- Jesus (Isa) will return, confront the Dajjal at Ludd, and kill him with a spear.
- Protection through holding fast to the Quran and Sunnah and seeking refuge in the prophetic supplication.
- Protection through keeping distance from the Dajjal, avoiding sensationalism, and memorizing the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf.
- The communal duty to warn others and to recognize the current inversion of truth, trust, and public discourse.
In the khateeb's words
“No prophet, no messenger was sent. Except that he warned his people against him.”
“Whoever memorizes 10 verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.”
“The Muslim is not a person of sensationalism. The Muslim is not a person of fitnah.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that the Dajjal will be one of the greatest trials and that his deception will make falsehood look convincing. We can seek protection by holding firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah, asking Allah for refuge in prayer, keeping away from dangerous doubts, and memorizing the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf. We should also remind our communities about this trial and stay alert to times when lies are believed and truth is dismissed. In daily life, believers seek and spread good, remain truthful and trustworthy, and avoid sensationalism and matters that do not concern them. We ask Allah to protect us from every visible and hidden trial and keep our hearts firm.
- What is one good thing you could amplify this week?
- How can Surah Al-Kahf or a prayer help us stay grounded?
- What does it mean to leave alone something that does not concern you?
