Renew your faith and rely on Allah
“Shaytan is going to tell you, sleep, sleep, sleep, you have more time.”
At the start of the Hijri year 1448, the Prophet's migration and the divine promise that Allah is with the believers call every Muslim to renew their faith, safeguard Allah's commands, rely on Him alone, and take concrete steps toward the Hereafter.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Exhortation to taqwa and to obey Allah and His Messenger so as to be with the prophets and righteous in the Hereafter.
- Reflection on the new Hijri year 1448 and the Prophet's migration, persecution by Quraysh, and refuge in the cave of Thawr.
- The Quranic reassurance to Abu Bakr, "Do not grieve; Allah is with us," and the central question: are you with Allah?
- Renewal of covenant with Allah, the Prophet, the Quran, and Islam, and a call to examine the true purpose of life beyond distractions.
- Accountability before Allah and the Prophet, the duty to change evil, and a rebuke of Muslim apathy toward the oppressed.
- Explanation of the Ibn Abbas hadith: safeguard Allah's commands, ask Allah, seek His help, and trust in His divine decree.
- Practical resolutions: learn and teach the Quran, establish Fajr prayer, reflect on Surah al-Rahman, resist Satan, and protect one's family.
- Closing supplication for forgiveness, guidance, healing, and relief for the oppressed in Gaza, Sudan, India, and across the Ummah.
In the khateeb's words
“So the lesson for us today, to take this verse, to take these three words, Allah is with us, and ask ourselves, are you with Allah?”
“They would not be able to benefit you except what Allah has written on you or for ordain for you.”
“shaytan is going to tell you, sleep, sleep, sleep, you have more time. kick the shaytan, the strongest kick, and tell them out, out of my life.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah used the new Hijri year to remind us of the Prophet’s migration, careful planning, and reassurance to Abu Bakr that Allah is with us. We were encouraged to renew our relationship with Allah by making one specific change and protecting ourselves and our families from sin. The khateeb reminded us to ask Allah for help while also taking practical steps, and that our choices and responsibilities matter. The Qur’an was presented as a source of guidance and happiness, approached with patience, consistency, and gratitude. As a family, we can choose one small deed, such as praying Fajr, learning an ayah, or reading Qur’an, and keep working at it together.
- What is one small good deed you would like our family to practice together?
- When you feel worried or stuck, how can you ask Allah for help?
- What blessing from Allah are you especially grateful for today?
