Build life around prayer and welcome others
“We become the source of light for the people around us.”
The khutbah argues that Muslims must embody Islam through disciplined worship and welcoming conduct, especially by organizing life around salah, sustaining Ramadan habits, and spreading salam and care so others see Islam as a source of light.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- A woman’s fifteen-year search for meaning led to Islam after encountering a disciplined Muslim coworker.
- The first coworker’s sinful lifestyle misrepresented Islam, while the second coworker’s discipline inspired Quran and seerah study.
- Ramadan teaches Muslims to organize their lives around worship, especially salah, and to sustain those habits afterward.
- The ummah’s role is to believe in Allah, encourage good, and oppose wrongdoing while serving as a source of light.
- Spreading salam beyond familiar social circles welcomes newcomers and strengthens communal unity.
- Worship, feeding others, and spreading salam are presented as actions connected to entering Paradise.
In the khateeb's words
“his discipline his discipline his life was organized and that showed that he this man is living by some code of conduct some principles”
“ramadan taught us that the paradigm needs to be the focus the lens needs to be salah the five daily salah waking up early”
“we become the source of light for the people around us and we have to think about uh are we the source of light for the people around us”
For the dinner table
The khateeb told a story about a woman whose encounters with two Muslim co-workers shaped her interest in Islam. The second co-worker’s discipline and commitment to his faith encouraged her to study the Quran and the Prophet’s life, and she accepted Islam. He reminded us that Ramadan helped us practice discipline and encouraged us to keep organizing our days around prayer afterward. He also explained that giving salam to people we do not know can help them feel welcome and connected to the community. By worshipping Allah, feeding people, and offering greetings of peace, we can carry the lessons of Ramadan into everyday life.
- Which habit from Ramadan would you like our family to keep, and how could we help each other?
- What could you say after salam to help someone new at the mosque feel included?
- Who could we share a meal with this week?
