Honor Palestine through courageous action
“Continue to learn and read what is happening. Inform your family, your community. Educate the rest of the people around you.”
The khutbah urges Muslims to honor Palestine and Gaza through informed, courageous action, public advocacy, solidarity, and legitimate relief while trusting Allah with the results.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Remembers Anas al-Sharif and other Palestinian journalists killed while documenting Gaza.
- Reads Anas's final will and explains that believers are responsible for action, not controlling outcomes.
- Frames Palestine as a sacred trust and invokes Quranic and prophetic teachings about solidarity.
- Challenges fear, silence, and apathy while emphasizing responsibility toward oppressed families and children.
- Calls for learning, educating others, protest participation, coalition-building, action alerts, and legitimate relief support.
- Closes with hope for Palestinian freedom and a prayer for morally meaningful action.
In the khateeb's words
“I leave Palestine now in your hands. I've done everything I can. I entrust you. This is your amana now.”
“Continue to learn and read what is happening. Inform your family, your community. Educate the rest of the people around you.”
“Would the vigil liberate Palestine and end the genocide? I'll tell you now. No. But would it contribute to it? Absolutely.”
For the dinner table
In this khutbah, Hussam Ayloush remembered Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif and read his final will, which asked others to care for Palestine and his family. He reminded us that people suffering in Gaza have names, loved ones, and hopes for their children just as we do. He explained that we are responsible for our actions, while the results belong to Allah. He encouraged listeners to keep learning, share what they learn, join peaceful civic efforts, work with people of other faiths, and support organizations able to deliver relief. He reminded us that even small acts matter and prayed that Allah would use us to uphold goodness and dignity for all people.
- What hopes do you have for your future that children in Gaza might share?
- What helps you speak up kindly when someone is being treated unfairly?
