Qur'an & tafsirFrom the masjid's own video, Aug 14, 2026.
Allah created us to worship and obey
“The plan was always to come to the earth.”
In one sentence
Allah created humans, placed them on earth by design, gave them will and responsibility, and will resurrect and judge them, so they should respond with gratitude, worship, and obedience.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains that human life, sustenance, and every breath are gifts from Allah, making ingratitude irrational.
- Connects death, resurrection, and judgment to the inescapable human journey before Allah.
- Clarifies that humanity’s placement on earth was always part of Allah’s plan, not merely a consequence of Adam’s mistake.
- Defines khalifa as successive generations inhabiting earth rather than ownership of it.
- Addresses human wrongdoing through divinely granted knowledge, will, and wisdom beyond human understanding.
- Closes by urging gratitude, worship, belief, following the prophets, and seeking paradise and forgiveness.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“the very fact of his existence is an indication that there is one that has caused him to exist”
“No, the plan was always to come to the earth”
“He has given us a will The ability to obey Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's command And the ability to disobey Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's command”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that Allah gave us life, bodies, parents, food, clothing, and every breath, so gratitude is a proper response. Our life on earth was part of Allah’s plan: people would live here as successive generations and be tested. Allah gave human beings knowledge and the ability to choose obedience or disobedience, while His wisdom remains greater than ours. We should worship and honor Him, believe in Him, follow His prophets, and ask Him for guidance, forgiveness, and Paradise.
- What is one gift from Allah that you often forget to appreciate?
- Why do you think Allah gave people the ability to choose?
- How can we show gratitude through our actions this week?
