Honor the blessed day through worship
“The best day upon which the sun has risen is Friday.”
Friday is a uniquely blessed day, so Muslims should honor it through worship, salawat, punctuality, attentiveness, and proper Jumu'ah etiquette.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains Friday’s special status and connection to Adam, Jannah, and the Day of Judgment.
- Describes Friday’s accepted supplication period and rewards for arriving early.
- Emphasizes sending blessings upon the Prophet and the proper order of making dua.
- Details cleanliness, clothing, prayer, seating, silence, and phone etiquette at Jumu'ah.
- Warns against neglecting Friday prayer and missing multiple Fridays without excuse.
- Concludes with community announcements about family events and children's and adults' halaqas.
In the khateeb's words
“The best day upon which the sun has risen is Friday. On that day Adam was created, he was admitted to Jannah, he was expelled from Jannah, and the day at the hour will not establish except on a Friday.”
“The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam says one of the verses when you say salam upon the Prophet, Allah would make salah upon you by name ten times.”
For the dinner table
Friday is a special weekly gift from Allah and a day connected in the sermon with Adam’s creation, Jannah, and the Day of Judgment. We can honor it by bathing, wearing good clothes, arriving early, praying two rak'ahs, sitting respectfully, and listening without phones or side conversations. The khateeb also encouraged reciting Surah al-Kahf, sending blessings on the Prophet, and beginning our duas by praising Allah and then sending salawat. He reminded us not to neglect Jumu'ah and invited families to strengthen their deen through the masjid’s halaqas and gatherings. The overall message is to make Friday a day of worship, gratitude, good manners, and community.
- What is one Friday habit you want to practice this week?
- Why might the speaker tell us to put our phones away during the khutbah?
- How can our family help one another arrive at Jumu'ah or a halaqa prepared and on time?
