Remembering Allah is a sign of His love

“You don't remember Allah unless Allah remembered you first.”

The khateeb, at 10:06

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that Allah's love is shown through the ability to remember Him, and believers should answer that love by loving, learning from, and imitating the Prophet Muhammad.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  3. Love of the Prophet is described as heartfelt, not merely intellectual, and expressed through learning and imitation.
  4. An intellect-and-emotions analogy explains why love moves people toward action.
  5. Hadith about the Prophet's future brothers, Uhud, and the Ansar after Hunayn portray reciprocal love and gratitude.
  6. The khutbah closes with prayers for mercy, guidance, family improvement, Muslim unity, and Palestine.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that even our ability to thank and remember Allah is a gift from Him. When we find ourselves doing dhikr or acts of goodness, we can see them as signs of Allah's love and respond with more love and gratitude. We show love for the Prophet Muhammad by learning about his life and following his character. The Prophet also expressed love for believers who would come after him, even though he would never meet them. We should carry that love into our families, our worship, and our concern for Muslims facing hardship.

  1. What is one way we can remember Allah together this week?
  2. Which quality of the Prophet would you like to learn and practice?
  3. What helps you remember that gratitude matters more than possessions?
