Use every blessing for Allah and others

“Improve yourself and walk away with action items.”

The khateeb, at 6:06

In one sentence

True consciousness means recognizing every blessing as an entrusted test, using one's time, abilities, health, and wealth for Allah and the community, and preparing to answer for them rather than equating comfort with divine favor.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Rejects the idea that prosperity proves Allah's pleasure or hardship proves His anger.

  3. Calls listeners to use their skills, careers, time, health, and wealth for the Ummah.
  4. Contrasts local comfort with global suffering and urges solidarity and reduced waste.
  5. Emphasizes giving according to personal capacity without comparing oneself to others.
  6. Closes with family reflection, humanitarian generosity, and preparation for Judgment Day.
Try this week
Leave Jumu'ah with specific action items and deliberately apply the lesson during the week.
Inventory your time, health, money, knowledge, and skills, then identify how each can serve Allah and the Muslim community.
Use professional abilities, such as teaching, finance, IT, construction, plumbing, or speaking, to help the masjid and Ummah.
Discuss with family and friends what each person has and how those blessings can be used for Allah’s sake.
Reduce unnecessary luxury spending, avoid wasting food and drinks, and redirect savings toward humanitarian assistance.
Give according to your own capacity without comparing yourself with people who have different tests.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

This khutbah teaches that a comfortable life is not proof that Allah is pleased with us, and hardship is not automatically punishment. Every gift, time, health, money, knowledge, and ability, is a trust, and we will answer for how we used it. We should serve the masjid and wider Muslim community with our talents, care about people suffering around the world, and give according to what Allah has provided us. At home, we can talk honestly about our blessings, waste less food and luxury spending, and turn some of what we save into help for people in need. The goal is to live awake and grateful, using what Allah gives us for His sake.

  1. What is one talent or blessing you have, and how could you use it to help someone this week?
  2. How can our family show that Muslims are like one body when people are suffering?
