The Quran guides believers to Jannah
“We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to make us among those who follow the kitab of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
The Qur'an is Islam's enduring miracle and divine operating manual that answers life's essential questions, guides believers to the straight path, and must be read and followed to reach Jannah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains how al-Fatiha and al-Baqarah present the Qur'an as guidance to and perseverance on the straight path.
- Presents the Qur'an as internally consistent, miraculous, and capable of answering life's fundamental questions while recognizing human limits.
- Uses Qur'anic stories, the unseen, and the afterlife to teach lessons and define true success.
- Compares the Qur'an to an instruction manual providing spiritual, practical, legal, and theological guidance, with the Sunnah explaining it.
- Urges listeners to reconnect with the Qur'an, especially during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and distinguishes knowing guidance from acting on it.
- Uses a GPS analogy to call believers to follow divine guidance toward Jannah, then closes with supplication and prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“It will answer the main questions, why we are in this life? What is our purpose in life? Who created us? Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“This is your operating manual. This will show you how to do, and what to do.”
“To reach your destination in Jannah, inshallah. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to make us among those who follow the kitab of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah encouraged us to build a closer connection with the Qur’an and look to it for guidance about our purpose and how to live. The khateeb explained that we ask Allah both to show us the straight path and to help us stay on it. He reminded us that Qur’anic stories teach lessons we can use to avoid repeating others’ mistakes. Like a GPS, guidance shows us the way, but we also need to begin moving and follow it, with Allah’s help. As a family, we can spend time reflecting on the Qur’an and choose something we learn to put into practice, keeping Jannah as our destination.
- What helps you do the right thing when you already know what it is?
- Which Qur’anic story would you like us to read together, and what would you like to learn from it?
- If following guidance is like pressing start on a GPS, what could your first step be this week?
