The khutbah reminds us that we inherit habits and ways of reacting from our families, along with many good things. Honoring our parents means understanding that inheritance, keeping what pleases Allah, and working to change what causes harm. The khateeb pointed to the Prophet's loving welcome of Fatima as an example of helping children feel seen, heard, and loved. He also encouraged parents to let children live their own lives instead of carrying their parents' unfulfilled dreams. Although we cannot change the past, we can choose how we respond and turn our pain into mercy for our families and children around the world.

  1. What is one good thing our family has taught you that you would like to pass on?
  2. What helps you feel seen, heard, and loved at home?
