Keep worship alive through every season
“We are not like a remote control where we turn off for one season.”
Because Allah created life with purpose, believers should resist ghaflah, forgetting Allah, by moderating pleasures and turning daily experiences into reminders that renew worship and meaning.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Affirms Allah’s perfect plan and the purposeful creation of the world and human actions.
- Explains how tribulation, boredom, and ghaflah can obscure the purpose of worship.
- Identifies summer prayer gaps, disrupted routines, travel, weddings, and football as risks.
- Connects prolonged neglect with purposelessness and contrasts it with religion-grounded resilience.
- Calls for moderation while using vacations and sports as reminders of Allah.
- Closes with supplications and community announcements for pilgrims, bereaved families, healing, relief, and steadfastness.
In the khateeb's words
“Even when you think you're doing something Completely random There is a purpose And the meaning behind it Whether we recognize it Or not”
“Ibadah is not always about Praying and doing Dhikr And directly worshipping Allah SWT In a particular way In a rituistic way But just being aware Of Allah SWT”
“We are not like A remote control Where we turn off For one season You can just turn us Back on With our worship Once that season Is done”
“Think about the ways That what we consume How can we use it As a way to get close to Allah SWT Rather than being consumed By it”
For the dinner table
Allah did not create the world or our lives without purpose, and our purpose is to worship Him. The speaker explains that ghaflah, forgetting Allah and losing awareness of Him, can make ordinary life and even hardship feel empty. Summer can intensify that forgetfulness through long prayer gaps, disrupted routines, travel, weddings, and entertainment, so we should notice when our habits pull us away. We can enjoy these blessings while practicing moderation and turning them into reminders of Allah through du'a, Bismillah, gratitude, and observing His creation. The khutbah closes by asking Allah for forgiveness, healing, relief from oppression, steadfast hearts, and a good ending.
- What is one summer activity we can enjoy more mindfully?
- What can remind us of Allah during a vacation or while watching sports?
- How can we protect prayer when our daily routine changes?
