Trust Allah beyond what you can see

“The realm of the ghayb, the realm of the unseen, is the majority of where reality lies.”

The khateeb, at 2:37

In one sentence

Belief in the unseen should free believers from anxiety about an opaque world, orient them toward Allah and the afterlife, and move them toward beneficial, righteous action.

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. The unseen is central to taqwa and contains more of reality than the sensory world.
  2. Human knowledge is limited, so believers should study the world without pretending to fully decode it.
  3. Humility about ignorance and belief in divine decree can relieve the agony of uncertainty.
  4. The soul and unseen realm exceed visible reality, especially amid AI-generated confusion.
  5. Hope is grounded in meeting Allah, not in expecting every worldly situation to end comfortably.
  6. Believers should limit doom-scrolling and political analysis, then pursue service, Quran study, and beneficial knowledge.
  7. The khutbah closes by urging believers to keep one eye on the dunya and one on the akhira.

For the dinner table

Shaykh Yasir Fahmy reminded us that believing in the unseen means recognizing that what we can see is only part of reality, and Allah knows what we do not. We can seek knowledge and stay aware of the world without expecting to understand or control everything. He acknowledged that war and suffering are painful and prayed for Allah to bring gentleness and extinguish the fires of warfare. He warned that endless scrolling and worrying can keep us from doing the good that is within our reach, such as serving others, learning, and studying the Quran. He encouraged us to stay hopeful through trust in Allah, keeping our responsibilities in this life and our meeting with Him in view.

  1. When something feels confusing, how can remembering that Allah knows what we do not help you?
  2. What could we do together instead of spending more time scrolling?
  3. What small act of kindness could you do this week, even if you feel worried?
