Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today the khutbah was about Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), who is mentioned in the Qur'an more than any other prophet. That shows us how important his story is. After living in Madyan for ten years, Musa was traveling home with his wife on a dark, cold night when he saw a light in the distance. When he walked to it, Allah spoke to him, told him to take off his sandals because he was in a sacred valley, and chose him as a prophet. The first thing Allah told him was to worship Him alone and to pray, because salah is our direct connection to Allah and helps us through hard times. Musa loved talking to Allah so much that when Allah asked what was in his hand, he gave a long answer just to keep the conversation going. The khateeb also reminded us to ask ourselves every day whether what we did brought us closer to Jannah.

  1. If Allah asked you what was in your hand today, what would you say, and what good could you do with it?
  2. What is one thing you did today that brought you closer to Allah?
  3. When something feels hard, how could praying help you feel stronger, the way it helped Musa?
