Honor Dhul-Hijjah through worship and justice
“Do extra salah, especially in the masjid.”
Because Allah has singled out sacred times and places for special honor, Muslims should approach the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah with heightened worship, avoid injustice, and entrust sacred communal roles to qualified people.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Argues that the minbar and other religious responsibilities must be entrusted to qualified people.
- Introduces the sacred months and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah as an especially virtuous season.
- Explains wronging oneself as disobedience, neglected worship, and injustice toward oneself and others.
- Distinguishes rights owed to Allah, oneself, and other people, emphasizing the social consequences of sin.
- Returns to the principle of honoring what Allah has honored, including qualified leadership, mosques, Jumu'ah, and sacred times.
- Urges fasting, Quran recitation, dhikr, extra prayer, righteous company, and reading Surah al-Kahf.
In the khateeb's words
“Serving Allah Is ultimate justice It is what is fair If you don't do that Then that is the greatest injustice”
“Are not limited to yourself They are going to extend and affect society That's why a Muslim They are very considerate”
“These 10 days should be transformative to our lives Do extra salah Especially in the masjid Be with the righteous”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Allah gives certain times extra holiness, especially the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. We should treat these days as a chance to draw nearer to Allah and avoid wronging ourselves or others. The speaker encourages fasting the first nine days, especially Arafah, reciting Quran, making dhikr, praying extra salah in the masjid, and keeping company with righteous people. The larger lesson is to honor what Allah has honored and use these days to renew our worship and character.
- What worship practice would make these ten days special for you?
- How can one person's choices affect the people around them?
- Who helps you remember Allah and stay focused on good actions?
