Allah alone grants true guidance

“You are here today because Allah guided you to come here.”

The khateeb, at 17:18

In one sentence

Allah’s guidance has four levels, and believers should recognize Islam as a divine favor, cling to its causes, and continually ask Allah to make them truly guided.

The khutbah explained that Allah guides all creation toward what it needs, but human beings also receive guidance through revelation and teaching. The deepest kind of guidance is when Allah helps a person accept the truth and live by it. We should be grateful that Allah guided us to Islam, while remembering that guidance is a gift and not something we can take for granted. We should hold on to the practices that strengthen guidance, especially prayer, remembrance, and obedience. When we ask Allah to guide us in al-Fatihah, we should ask not only to know the path, but also to follow it.
