Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Sep 12, 2025.

Live for the Akhirah before death

“We should repent to Allah SWT, turn back to Him, and realize that this world is very temporary.”

The khateeb, at 18:16

In one sentence

Because death can come at any time and only lived deeds accompany a person beyond the grave, Muslims should prioritize the Akhirah through repentance, obedience, Sunnah, and avoiding even small sins.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Worldly wealth benefits us through what we consume, wear out, or give in charity, not what heirs inherit.
  2. Death is unpredictable, so believers should live each day as if it may be their last.
  3. The grave's questions require embodied faith and Sunnah practice, not memorized answers alone.
  4. The grave begins the afterlife, offering either comfort or punishment before resurrection.
  5. The Day of Judgment exposes every deed, with terror, exact scales, and no insignificant actions.
  6. Repent now, resist peer pressure, prioritize good deeds, and remember that worldly life is temporary.

The khutbah reminds us that worldly possessions do not stay with us forever. What truly benefits us is what we use, what we wear, what we give in charity, and the deeds we carry into the hereafter. Since death can come at any time, we should live with repentance, follow the Prophet's Sunnah, and avoid sins even when they seem small. We should also resist peer pressure and remember that Allah sees and weighs every good and bad action. Our goal is to prepare for the hereafter while we still have the chance to change.

  1. What is one small good deed you can do this week?
  2. When is it difficult to do the right thing because other people are doing something else?
  3. What could help you remember that possessions and people do not follow us forever?
