Allah is the source behind every means
“The source is only Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
Human beings must recognize Allah as the sole source of all help, treating doctors, money, knowledge, medicine, technology, and AI only as means enabled by Him, while cultivating continual remembrance and dependence.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah creates human needs and provides means for fulfilling them.
- Confusing means with the source leads to misguidance and subtle shirk.
- Every means is created, provided, and made useful by Allah.
- Crisis and success both test whether people credit Allah or themselves.
- Dependence on Allah should shape daily speech, actions, and remembrance.
- The khutbah closes with supplications and a call to share this reminder.
In the khateeb's words
“While there is a huge distinction between the source and the means, that we all have to be always reflecting of the difference between the two.”
“The source is only Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. But since He arranged the means to fulfill our needs, then people, unfortunately, fail in this big test.”
“And as soon as you do something, you start it with Bismillah. All these Athkar are meant to remind us about this reality.”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb reminded us that Allah made us with lots of needs, like air, food, water, sleep and a heart that keeps beating. Allah gave us many ways to meet those needs, such as doctors, medicine, money, knowledge and even our phones and AI. These things are only tools, though. Allah is the real source of every good thing, and none of it works without His permission. The khateeb warned that it's easy to forget Allah and to say 'I just go to the doctor' or 'I just ask AI.' We also shouldn't remember Allah only when we're in trouble and then forget Him once things get better. So let's try to start things with Bismillah, plan with Insha'Allah, and say Alhamdulillah whether things go our way or not.
- What is one thing you used today that only worked because Allah let it work?
- When was a time you made dua for help? Did you remember to thank Allah afterwards?
- Why do you think we say Bismillah before we eat, study or play?
