For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah invited us to see sleep as a daily reminder that Allah can bring us back to life after death. The khateeb described sleep as a minor death and waking as a reason to reflect on our eventual return to Allah. Sleep is also a gift of mercy that lets us rest and recover. He encouraged us to learn the Prophet’s bedtime guidance, including making wudu, sleeping on our right side, and remembering Allah through supplications. At bedtime we can entrust our affairs to Allah, and when we wake we can begin with praise, wudu, and prayer.

  1. What could waking up tomorrow remind you to thank Allah for?
  2. What worry would you like to entrust to Allah before bed?
  3. Which bedtime practice mentioned in the khutbah could we work on together?
