Serving parents brings blessings and forgiveness
“It's not just honoring the parents but it is also being patient with their weakness.”
Honoring and serving one's parents, even through difficulty, is among the greatest deeds and brings blessings in this life, forgiveness, answered supplications, and reward in the Hereafter.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces dutifulness to parents as a major means of drawing near to Allah.
- Explains that children should not obey parents in shirk but must remain kind.
- Lists rewards including longer life, wealth, forgiveness, accepted supplications, and Paradise.
- Gives examples from the Companions and righteous predecessors who prioritized and served their parents.
- Defines honor through patience, lowered voices, fulfilling needs, spending on parents, and praying for them.
- Concludes with the cave narrative and a warning that children often mirror how parents treat their own parents.
In the khateeb's words
“some of the best thing that we can do for our parents after honoring them And after giving them that full respect, It's to pray for them.”
“but understand that there's gonna be no one that will ever give you advice like your father. No one can be that sincere.”
“respect and honoring the parents There's so many more examples. What does it really mean? It's not just honoring the parents but it is also being patient with their weakness.”
“the way we are with our parents, we will see the exact same thing happening.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that honoring parents is one of the greatest ways to draw near to Allah. It means speaking gently, serving their needs, spending on them, being patient with their weaknesses, and praying for them. Even if parents pressure us to disobey Allah, we should not obey the wrongdoing while still treating them with kindness. The speaker described rewards such as blessing in life, forgiveness, answered supplications, and honor in the Hereafter. He reminded us that children often learn from the way we treat our own parents.
