Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Jun 19, 2026.

Allah will ask how you used your life

“Spending on your own dependence, children and wife, is one of the best ways you can spend for the sake of Allah.”

The khateeb, at 6:06

In one sentence

Every person will stand before Allah and answer for four things, their time, knowledge, wealth, and body, so believers must live intentionally now to prepare their answers.

The khutbah in 8 steps

  1. Introduction: the hadith of the four (or five) questions of Judgment Day from Tirmidhi and al-Bayhaqi
  2. First question: your life and time, how did you spend it?
  3. Second question: your knowledge, why you sought it and what you did with it
  4. Third question: your wealth, how you earned it and how you spent it, including spending on family with intention
  5. Fourth question: your body, how you cared for it and used it, plus the hadith of the martyr and the modest worshipper
  6. How to succeed: seek guidance from Allah, keep good companionship, and don't follow crowds blindly (World Cup example)
  7. Quranic contrasts: the heedless in Hellfire versus the muhsinoon who worship at night, and prophets who stood firm
  8. Conclusion: review your life by the Quran and Sunnah and prepare your answers
Try this week
Review your life against the Quran and Sunnah and prepare answers for the four questions
Take the intention to please Allah in ordinary acts, spending on family, sleeping, working, so they count as worship
Seek guidance directly from Allah rather than relying on your own abilities
Keep companionship with people who love the Quran and the deen
Play sports yourself with modesty instead of spending time and money watching them
Don't follow crowds or trends blindly; know why you are doing what you do
Sleep with the intention of strengthening yourself to wake and worship Allah
Spend wealth on permissible good: family, masajid, the poor, and the wider community
Sources the khateeb cited
Jami` at-TirmidhiFoundation of the entire khutbah: no one leaves the place of questioning until asked about their life, knowledge, wealth, and body
Quran 51:50Used to argue that guidance and success come only from fleeing to Allah, not from one's own abilities
Quran 74:42-44The people of Hellfire explain their fate: they did not pray, did not feed the poor, and blindly followed others
Quran 51:17-18Describes the muhsinoon who sleep little at night and seek forgiveness at dawn, contrasted with heedless night life

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah was about four questions every one of us will be asked by Allah on the Day of Judgment: how we spent our time, our knowledge, our wealth, and our bodies. The imam reminded us that our life is really just minutes, and every minute is being spent on something. He taught us a beautiful secret: even ordinary things like providing for our family, playing sports, or going to sleep can become acts of worship if we do them with the intention of pleasing Allah. He warned us not to just follow the crowd without thinking, and encouraged us to keep friends who love the Quran. The message was hopeful: if we start preparing our answers now, we can meet Allah with hearts at peace.

  1. If your whole life is made of minutes, what is one thing you spent minutes on today that you're glad about?
  2. What is something normal you do, like eating or sleeping, that could become worship just by changing your intention?
  3. Why do you think the people in the Quran ended up in trouble just for following what everyone else was doing?
