Faith means telling the truth and resisting injustice
“The one with conviction does not hide the truth.”
The defining test of iman is whether believers recognize and speak truth, oppose injustice according to their capacity, and return to Allah when they sin.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames iman as the ultimate trial and distinguishes sincere believers from hypocrites who hide the truth.
- Describes spiritual disease as ego, desire, self-deception, and claiming purity.
- Connects truthfulness to confusion caused by AI, social media, and propaganda.
- Applies the principle to oppression in Gaza, Sudan, Kashmir, and China.
- Presents prophetic responses to injustice: action, speech or prayer, and inward rejection.
- Calls for ethical choices, repentance, solidarity, and prayers for oppressed communities and injured local Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“the one with conviction does not hide the truth. The one with conviction may sin.”
“They ask Allah for His Rahmah, His Mercy. That is the true believer, the best of them.”
“If we hear or see or know of any injustice or wrongdoing, what do we do? We change it with our hand if we are capable.”
“The believer recognizes the truth and he or she sticks to it.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that our faith is tested, and that iman can help carry us through painful times. He urged us to recognize and speak the truth, even when doing so feels uncomfortable. He also warned us against declaring ourselves pure or better than others, reminding us to seek Allah's forgiveness and return to Him when we make mistakes. Speaking about people suffering in Gaza, Sudan, and elsewhere, he called for prayer, truthful speech, donations, and practical help according to our abilities. We can reflect together on how to stay humble, be honest, and turn our concern for others into consistent action.
- What helps you tell the truth when you feel nervous about it?
- When you make a mistake, how can you ask Allah for forgiveness and help put things right?
- What is one way our family could help someone who is suffering this week?
