Faith must answer oppression

“The Prophet doesn't only ask us to recognize truth. He asks us to act on it.”

The khateeb, at 91:33

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that life’s greatest test is iman, recognizing and submitting to truth, and that genuine faith requires responding to oppression with one’s resources, words, prayers, or at least a heart that rejects evil.

This khutbah teaches that the deepest test in life is iman: whether we recognize truth and remain faithful to it through hardship. Trials such as divorce, loss, war, or loneliness matter, but they reveal how steadily we turn to Allah. The khateeb urges us not to hide or reshape truth for comfort, but to respond to wrongdoing with whatever capacity we have, our resources, our words, our dua, and at least a heart that rejects evil. He also reminds us to put our phones away during Jumu’ah and to care for Muslims suffering around the world and in our own community. The family takeaway is to ask Allah for guidance, choose integrity, and practice concern through a concrete act of prayer or service.

  1. What is one difficult situation where telling the truth might require courage?
  2. How could our family turn concern for someone suffering into action this week?
  3. What is one distraction we can set aside during prayer or khutbah?
