Serving parents opens the door to Paradise
Honoring and serving one's parents with exceptional patience and respect is a major path to Paradise and helps cultivate righteous future generations.

- Explains ihsan as excellence, patience, respectful speech, and prioritizing parents.
- Recalls parental sacrifices and warns that abandoning parents harms children and family ties.
- Uses Ibrahim and Ismail to show how honoring parents shapes descendants.
- Describes duties toward living and deceased parents, then closes with prayers and announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“That you should go above and beyond when it comes to the relationship of your parents.”
“When we do that to our parents, we're shooting ourselves in the foot. We are harming our own children.”
“If we take care of the rights of our parents, Allah will take care of us.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that caring for our parents is an important part of worshipping Allah and a path toward Paradise. The khateeb shared the story of Uwais, who stayed to care for his sick mother instead of traveling to meet the Prophet. He explained that ihsan means showing excellent conduct and going above and beyond with our parents. Remembering their sacrifices can help us speak gently and offer patient care as they grow older. He also reminded us that after parents pass away, we can continue honoring them by praying for their forgiveness and mercy, fulfilling their promises, and caring for their relatives.
- What is one act of care from a parent or grandparent that you would like to thank them for?
- What could you say when you feel frustrated but want to speak kindly?
- What dua could we make together for our parents and grandparents tonight?
