Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 25, 2026.
Prepare now for the permanent Hereafter
“The dunya has declared its departure.”
In one sentence
Because this worldly life is temporary and the Hereafter is permanent, Muslims must prepare now through taqwa, knowledge, obedience, and fulfilling the rights of others.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with Qur’anic calls to taqwa, truthful speech, and obedience.
- Uses Utbah ibn Ghazwan’s narration to portray the dunya as departing and the Hereafter as everlasting.
- Contrasts the companions’ early poverty with their later worldly authority.
- Compares the dunya to water on a finger and frames Judgment as tomorrow.
- Defines taqwa as obeying Allah, avoiding prohibitions, learning obligations, and honoring people’s rights.
- Urges daily preparation through beneficial knowledge and good deeds, then closes with supplication and recitation.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“the dunya has declared its departure the final call has been made the dunya declared its final departure”
“no husband can be ignorant of the rights of his wife no wife can be ignorant of the rights of her husband”
“the only way to increase in taqwa is increasing in knowledge there is no shortcuts”
“that's the preparation time to take and to adjust your luggage accordingly because once you zip it up there's no opening until the day of judgment”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that this life is temporary and the next life is lasting. We should pack our “luggage” for tomorrow by living with taqwa: obeying Allah, avoiding what He prohibited, and protecting ourselves from wrongdoing. Taqwa also means learning what we owe to Allah and to the people around us, our family, neighbors, people we meet, and even animals. We can grow in taqwa through beneficial knowledge and by checking our deeds each day. Wealth and status will not go with us after death; our deeds are what remain.
- If your good deeds were a suitcase, what would you want to put in it this week?
- Who is one person whose rights or feelings you can take better care of?
- What is one thing you could learn that would help you make a better choice?
