For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that waking up each morning is a gift from Allah and a renewal of our time in this life. All creation praises Allah in its own way, even when we cannot understand how. Because Allah hears every need and manages every affair, we can bring our joys, worries, and struggles directly to Him. Our greatest goal is Jannah, and we move toward it through praise, repentance, generosity, patience, forgiveness, and righteousness. The khateeb’s story about his father also teaches us that trying to improve the world should never cause us to neglect prayer and our basic duties to Allah.

  1. What is one gift from Allah you noticed today that you usually overlook?
  2. If birds and other animals praise Allah in their own ways, how can we praise Him in ours?
  3. How can you help someone or support a good cause while still protecting your prayers?
