Set higher goals for worship and Paradise
Muslims should raise their spiritual aspirations beyond minimal observance, plan intentional lifelong worship, and cultivate contentment and ethically built wealth for the Hereafter, family, and community.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Urges believers to reject low spiritual aspirations and set lofty goals for the Hereafter.
- Uses Quranic examples, prophetic history, and sacrifice to frame Paradise as requiring serious commitment.
- Diagnoses weak resolve through minimal worship, inconsistency, worldly obsession, and fear of small religious inconveniences.
- Prescribes intentionality, asking Allah for the highest, gradual worship growth, strategic spiritual planning, and righteous company.
- Reframes wealth as contentment, security, health, and daily provision rather than endless accumulation.
- Argues that Muslims should build wealth for influence, independence, and future generations while keeping worldly possessions out of the heart.
- Recommends avoiding get-rich-quick schemes, developing valuable skills, and seeking mentorship to build beneficial wealth and community legacy.
In the khateeb's words
“This is choosing which level of Jannah do I want to get to. This is choosing what extra things can I do.”
“Wealth is built upon sacrifice, it's built upon consistency, it's built upon mastery.”
For the dinner table
Today's two khutbahs invited us to think about what we are working toward and what real success means. The first khateeb encouraged us to aim high for the hereafter, make clear plans for worship, and grow through small, steady steps. He reminded us that children learn from our actions and that good company helps us grow in faith. The second khateeb explained that true wealth includes a contented heart, and that our worship should shape how kindly we treat others. He encouraged building useful skills, learning from mentors, and using wealth responsibly to support our families and leave something beneficial for future generations.
- What small act of worship could we help each other practice this week?
- What is something you already have that you felt thankful for today?
- What could our family do that would help other people for years to come?
