A healthy society starts at home
“Society will only be fixed when a husband walks through his front door with a smile.”
Society’s disorder begins with a broken family blueprint, which can be repaired through attentive parenting, patient marriage, mutual respect, and everyday kindness at home.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Uses the sun, moon, night, and day as an analogy for complementary, non-competing roles.
- Calls listeners to rebuild the broken family blueprint beginning in their own living rooms.
- Urges parents to monitor children’s media, relationships, schooling, and prayer as responsible guardians.
- Encourages spouses to overlook small faults, manage jealousy, listen patiently, give gifts, and practice mutual respect.
- Argues that wider social renewal begins with daily family conduct rather than laws, social media, or self-help books.
- Closes with supplications for families, forgiveness, guidance, and righteousness before prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“but today my dear brothers and sisters as I have said before our blueprint is broken we need to rebuild it we need to start it tonight inshallah and we need to start from our own living rooms”
“and again this is not about spying this is about being a guardian of your own flock”
“what's healthy is a functional respectful home that is built on mutual respect managing our jealousy offering spontaneous gifts and letting the small things slide”
“society will only be fixed when a husband walks through his front door with a smile”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah said that families are the first building blocks of society, and that social problems cannot be repaired only through laws or online discussion. Parents were encouraged to be attentive guardians who know what their children watch, read, and experience without turning care into spying. Spouses were urged to overlook small mistakes, manage jealousy, listen patiently, show respect, and offer simple gifts and warmth. Rebuilding a broken world begins in our own living rooms through everyday responsibility and kindness. We ended by asking Allah to bless our families and make our homes examples of righteousness.
- What does it look like to care about a family member’s online life without spying?
- What small thing could we overlook or forgive this week?
- How can we make someone at home feel safe and understood?
