Make the masjid your community home

“The masjid needs to be that third place where we come together as a community.”

The khateeb, at 17:39

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that the masjid can be a welcoming home for our community, where we pray, make friends, share meals, and give children room to enjoy wholesome activities. We can help by welcoming others and remembering that our allegiance is to Allah, rather than one particular masjid. It also encourages us to be grateful for another year and use the approach of Ramadan to reflect on how we can grow. That means noticing our own shortcomings, seeking Allah’s forgiveness, and working toward forgiving others. A small step we can take is to spend a quiet minute or two after prayer remembering Allah and sincerely asking His forgiveness.

  1. What would help you feel more welcome and connected at the masjid?
  2. What is one habit you would like to work on before Ramadan?
  3. How could we help each other find two quiet minutes to remember Allah?
