The Quran must reshape how Muslims see reality
“Our perception has to be shifted by the Quran.”
Muslims must build a daily, sincere relationship with the Qur'an because it is Allah's guidance that corrects human perception, removes worldly deception, and determines whether a nation is raised or debased.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Gratitude for being handpicked by Allah to be Muslims and to receive the Qur'an
- The Qur'an is divine revelation from Allah, not guidance from the self, media, or internet
- Nations are raised through engagement with the Qur'an and debased through negligence of it
- Non-Arab memorizers of the Qur'an are its guardians and should be honored and utilized
- Men must leave Salah and connection with Allah as an inheritance for their families, not just wealth
- Tajweed and giving each Qur'anic letter its right teaches us to give rights to one another
- Perception (sha'ara) and deception (gurur): the Qur'an must reshape how Muslims see reality
- Closing call to touch and read the Qur'an every day, even a few lines, and Allah will make the path easy
In the khateeb's words
“Whether we are lightly equipped or heavily equipped, brothers and sisters, our job is to move forward with the instructions and with the guidance that Allah has given us.”
“Our perception has to be shifted by the Quran. We have to perceive, we have to understand the truth that Allah has given us.”
“The unseen world is more than the seen world. What's my evidence? All of us have an angel here and an angel here.”
“If you sacrifice for it, Allah will sacrifice for you. It's just how it happens. Nothing more important than this.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah chose and blessed us with Islam and the Qur'an, which is our greatest gift and guide. We should build a daily relationship with it, wherever we are in our reading, memorization, or understanding. The Qur'an helps correct our perceptions of success, wealth, and power and protects us from deception. He encouraged sincerity, consistency, learning together, and helping others grow. For families, the most valuable inheritance is learning how to pray and stay connected to Allah, not wealth alone.
- What does success mean according to the Qur'an?
- What is one way we can help someone else learn or improve in prayer?
