Protect your iman through worship and service

“What is the best I can do?”

The khateeb, at 36:31

In one sentence

Iman is a divine gift that must be protected and expressed through worship, obedience, freedom from worldly attachments, service, restraint from harm, and trust in Allah.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. The first sermon frames escalating fitnah as confusion and urges Muslims to preserve iman as their nonnegotiable foundation.
  2. It explains iman as belief joined to obedient action, urging listeners to ask what deed is best in each situation.
  3. It presents worship as liberation from attachment to wealth, status, food, exclusivity, and other worldly masters.
  4. It ranks practical responses: freeing others from worldly bondage, helping people, volunteering, and preventing harm through disciplined speech and conduct.
  5. The second sermon treats iman as a gift threatened by Shaytan's traps: shirk, innovation, explicit and minor sins, neglected prayer, and ingratitude.
  6. It answers hardship with taqwa, hope, prophetic examples, remembrance, dua, certainty that Allah is near, and a life oriented toward worship.

For the dinner table

Allah has given us the gift of iman, and we should protect it with gratitude, prayer, and obedience. Faith is not only a feeling in the heart; it should appear in how we worship, speak, and treat people. The khutbah asks us to notice what worldly things control our hearts and to use worship to become servants of Allah alone. When we cannot do something large, we can still volunteer, help someone, or simply keep our hands and tongues from causing harm. In difficult moments, we should remember the prophets' hope and trust that Allah is near, then make our daily lives serve Him.

  1. What is one worldly thing that can distract your heart from Allah?
  2. Where could our family volunteer or help someone this week?
  3. What helps you remember that Allah is near when life feels difficult?
