Genuine faith requires sacrifice for Allah
“I would not give up on truth because this is the truth and I cannot give up on truth.”
Genuine faith in Allah is demonstrated through sacrificing comfort, lawful desires, wealth, status, ego, and even life for His sake.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Challenges listeners to examine whether their belief in Allah is sincere and reflected in serious salah.
- Explains sacrifice across prayer, fasting, zakat, and Hajj.
- Presents the Prophet Muhammad's rejection of wealth, status, and power as steadfast sacrifice.
- Highlights the Sahaba's financial, physical, familial, and life sacrifices for Islam.
- Closes with prayers and Quranic recitations about faith, steadfastness, goodness, and paradise.
In the khateeb's words
“If someone accept Allah as his true God, true Lord, then he would only sacrifice for Allah.”
“so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is reminding us that even though you are healthy you are earning it by using your health by using your intellect but it's given by Allah in the first place”
“I would not give up on truth because this is the truth and I cannot give up on truth”
“so for Islam Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had to sacrifice in every single step”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that real faith in Allah should change what we are willing to give up for Him. It connects the pillars of Islam with sacrifice: prayer requires commitment, fasting requires leaving food and drink during the day and guarding our speech, zakat requires sharing wealth, and Hajj requires financial, physical, and emotional humility. The Prophet Muhammad and the Sahaba are presented as examples who endured rejection, hardship, loss, and generous giving without abandoning the truth. We are encouraged to examine whether our Islam is sincere and to sacrifice our ego, bad behavior, comfort, and resources in ways Allah accepts. The message ends by asking Allah to strengthen our faith, make us steadfast, and include us among the righteous.
- What is one small thing you can give up this week to strengthen your relationship with Allah?
- How can we show sacrifice through our words and behavior, not only money?
- Which example from the Prophet or Sahaba inspires you, and why?
