Praise Allah in ease and hardship
“Praising Allah is to praise Him because He created you because He deserves the praise.”
The khutbah teaches that praising Allah should shape worship, gratitude, family life, and respectful community conduct in every circumstance.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opening praise of Allah, testimony of faith, blessings upon the Prophet, and exhortation to mindfulness.
- Gratitude for NIA's growth from a small storefront to wider recognition and cooperation.
- Instructions for the upcoming dinner: arrive early, follow the schedule, and behave as gracious hosts.
- Explanation of Allah's name al-Hameed and Quranic and prophetic examples of praising Him.
- Encouragement to praise Allah in ease and hardship and teach children gratitude in daily life.
- Reframing worship as serving Allah because He deserves worship, not merely for rewards.
- Closing reminders about punctuality, respectful behavior, tickets, donations, and the masjid project.
In the khateeb's words
“The meaning of praise is to mention the beautiful qualities of the one that is being pleased with love reverence exaltation”
“Praising Allah is to praise Him because He created you because He deserves the praise. Period.”
“But let our biggest intention be we are worshipping Allah because He deserves to be worshipped. Period.”
“When we thank Allah for what He has done through our behavior, then what would He do? He would increase us in all other ways”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that we have many reasons to thank Allah, including our faith, our families’ opportunities to learn, and our community’s growth. He encouraged us to praise Allah in happy moments and difficult ones, keeping our hearts connected to Him. He asked parents to help children make saying Alhamdulillah part of everyday life, including meals and successes. He also explained that gratitude shows in our actions: arriving on time, welcoming guests, and treating young volunteers with respect. As NIA works toward a larger masjid, he encouraged everyone to support the effort and remember those who helped the community begin.
- What happened today that made you want to say Alhamdulillah?
- How could we help a young volunteer feel respected at our next community event?
- What could our family do to arrive on time and help guests feel welcome?
