Love the Prophet through the Sunnah
“Allah Azza wa Jal prevents the tawbah of the people of innovation to be accepted.”
Muslims should regularly send blessings upon the Prophet, especially on Fridays, while showing love through adherence to the Sunnah rather than introducing an unestablished annual Mawlid celebration.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Opens with praise, calls to taqwa, and affirmation that the Quran and Sunnah provide the best guidance.
- Explains the command and virtues of sending Salah upon the Prophet, including forgiveness, relief from anxiety, and multiplied rewards.
- Describes beginning dua with praise and salawat, placing personal requests between them, and increasing salawat on Fridays.
- Challenges the fixed date and religious basis of Mawlid, arguing that it was not practiced by the Prophet, Companions, or early generations.
- Urges listeners to oppose religious innovation according to their ability and closes with supplications.
In the khateeb's words
“Allah Azza wa Jal prevents the tawbah of the people of innovation to be accepted”
“The first group of people who celebrated the birthday of the Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam known as the Mawlid came close to 400 to 500 years after the death of the Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb encouraged us to send abundant salah upon Prophet Muhammad, especially on Fridays. He explained that this worship benefits us through forgiveness, relief from anxiety, rewards, and raised ranks. He also taught that love for Allah and His Messenger is shown by following the Prophet’s guidance. He argued that celebrating Mawlid as a yearly religious occasion has no basis in the Quran or Sunnah. The khutbah ended by reminding us to oppose wrongdoing according to our ability and to ask Allah for strong iman and guidance.
- What is one time today when you could send salah upon the Prophet?
- What does it look like to show love for the Prophet by following his example?
- How can our family make Friday feel spiritually special?
