Keep your heart firm in faith

“I'm a Muslim; I believe in Allah and Islam and Rasulullah S.A.W., and not only do I believe but I act like it as well.”

The khateeb, at 17:48

In one sentence

A believer should take a firm, active stance in faith, nourished by remembering Allah and reflecting on His creation, rather than drifting through worldly life and risking the uncertain fate of the people of A'raf.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

The khutbah uses a scene from Surah al-A'raf to remind us that faith is not meant to be passive or uncertain. The people of Paradise trusted Allah's promises, while the people of A'raf are described as waiting between Paradise and Hellfire with fear and hope. We are encouraged to strengthen our hearts through tafakkur, quietly noticing Allah's signs in the sun, trees, water, animals, and the heavens, and through regular remembrance. The practical goal is to avoid being drowned by worldly distractions, act like Muslims, and ask Allah to keep us firm and admit us among the people of Paradise.

  1. What is one part of Allah's creation that makes you stop and think?
  2. What worldly distraction can we handle more carefully this week?
  3. How can we show our faith through our actions at home?
