Trust Allah to answer the oppressed
ISOC · Muzammil Siddiqi and Ibrahim Yousef
“The most satisfying form of justice, the most satisfying retribution, is the retribution of Allah.”
In one sentence
In the sacred days of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims should draw near to Allah through repentance, remembrance, worship, charity, fasting, and sacrifice while confronting oppression with faith in Allah’s ultimate justice.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- The first khutbah presents Dhul Hijjah and Arafah as specially chosen, exceptionally blessed times.
- It connects Hajj and these days to Ibrahim’s legacy of tawhid, mission, and sacrifice.
- It recommends repentance, dhikr, timely prayer, charity, fasting, Quran recitation, dua, and udhiyah.
- It reminds citizens to register and vote for candidates committed to justice and human rights.
- The second khutbah examines thulm, or oppression, and the abuse of power in personal and global life.
- Quranic examples including Qawm Ad and the buried infant girl illustrate Allah’s final judgment against tyrants.
- The khutbah closes by warning against oppression and urging trust in Allah’s response to the oppressed.
