Today’s khutbah taught us that Muharram is one of Islam’s four sacred months, so we should be especially careful not to wrong ourselves. Ashura, the tenth day, reminds us how Allah saved Musa and the believers from Fir'aun. Musa first felt fear, but years of seeing Allah’s help taught him to trust that Allah would guide him again. We can honor this day by fasting the tenth, and, if we can, the ninth as well. The khutbah encouraged us to let Allah’s past help strengthen us when we face frightening situations.

  1. What helps you become calmer and more trusting when something feels frightening?
  2. What could you do to prepare for fasting Ashura?
  3. Which part of Musa’s story stood out to you most, and why?
