Love the dunya without losing the akhirah

“Everything you do from the dunya can be for the sake of the akhirah.”

The khateeb, at 14:25

In one sentence

The dunya is not inherently wrong, but loving it so deeply that it governs the heart distracts from Allah, breeds endless comparison and greed, and should be cured by remembering death, giving generously, and using worldly blessings for the akhirah.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminds us that having wealth, work, family, and comfort is not wrong. The danger begins when worldly things rule our hearts, distract us from Allah, or make us constantly compare ourselves with others. Remembering that life will end can help us focus on what truly matters. We can train our hearts by giving from what we love and using our blessings to help others. Our homes, careers, and daily responsibilities can all become ways to prepare for the akhirah.

  1. What worldly blessing do you think is hardest to keep in your hands rather than your heart?
  2. What is one generous action our family could take this week?
  3. How could something you already do become an act for the sake of Allah?
