Rebuild your life around Quran and prayer
“Make sure your children see the Quran in your hands every day.”
The answer to the difficult times facing the ummah is to rebuild a daily relationship with the Quran and the five daily prayers, lived out in front of our children.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening duas and the question of whether we truly know Allah and His names
- The ummah's hardship was foretold by the Prophet, who left the Quran and Sunnah as the solution
- Umar ibn Khattab's humble journey to Palestine with one camel and a patched thobe as an example
- Solution one: daily Quran and five salah, with parents modeling it so children see the book in their hands
- Morning and evening adhkar and bedtime recitations (Ayat al-Kursi, the three Quls, Surah al-Mulk)
- The four rights of the Quran, beginning with reading it with proper tajweed
- Being the imam of the family: sajjada in the car, family nights, kindness to wife and quality time with children
- The Prophet's akhlaq with children and a young sahabi, dua for Gaza and the West Bank, closing
In the khateeb's words
“make sure your children see the Quran in your hands every day”
“you give your leftover time to the Quran Quran will give you the leftover”
For the dinner table
The Sheikh reminded us that when life feels heavy and the Ummah's troubles weigh on our hearts, the answer is not somewhere far away, it is in our relationship with the Quran and our daily prayers. He asked us to think about how quickly we slow down when we see a police car, but how rarely our hearts tremble before Allah, who is far greater. He called on parents to be the imams of their homes by letting their children see them holding the Quran every day, and to spend real, joyful time together as a family. The Prophet's example, he said, was love, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness, not just words, but actions shown in how we treat our spouse, children, and neighbors. May Allah make our homes places where His book is opened, His names are remembered, and His mercy is lived.
- What is one small way we can put Allah first before we get tired or busy today?
