For the dinner table

The khutbah taught that dua, calling on Allah, is itself an essential act of worship. We should ask with humility, preferably privately, while holding both hope in Allah’s mercy and fear of His punishment. We should keep asking without becoming impatient, avoid asking for sinful things or harming people unjustly, and make sure our food, drink, and clothing are halal. Good times to make dua include sujood, the last third of the night, breaking a fast, the time between adhan and iqamah, and rainfall. Most importantly, we can ask Allah for good in this world and the next and for protection from the Fire.

  1. When have you kept making dua even before seeing the answer?
  2. What does asking Allah with both hope and fear mean to you?
  3. Which special time for dua would you like to try this week?
