Faith turns rivalry into community
“Imagine how the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam brought unity.”
The khutbah teaches that Muslim communities flourish through faithful struggle, unity, obedience to the Quran and Prophet, wise consultation, and compassionate conduct.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Community announcements encourage Eid toy-drive donations, weekend-school support, and Ramadan service at Skid Row.
- Lessons from Uhud and related battles introduce unity, struggle, and reward after effort.
- The Aws and Khazraj illustrate how faith transformed rival tribes into a united community supporting the Prophet.
- Surah Ali Imran’s lessons emphasize obedience, consultation with qualified people, and learning from setbacks.
- Quran recitations and closing supplications reinforce obedience, justice, mercy, and concern for oppressed Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“You have to take the effort. You have to struggle. Then the reward will come after.”
“They used to fight each other. Their life is just fighting. Okay, so imagine how the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam brought unity.”
“Not any people, you want to consult people who are specialized in the subject that you're going to ask about, etc.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught us that strong Muslim communities grow through unity, effort, obedience to Allah and His Messenger, and wise consultation. The story of the Aws and Khazraj showed how people who once fought could become brothers and supporters through faith. The lesson of Uhud reminded us to follow guidance even when a setback comes. We should carry the Quran’s teachings beyond the masjid by speaking gently, serving others, and joining acts of Ramadan generosity. At home, we can choose one way to build unity and kindness this week.
- What is one way our family can build unity this week?
- When have you needed advice from someone who knows more about a topic?
- How can we show kindness outside the masjid?
