Life is a test, so serve Allah and others
“Do we not visit the sick? Do we not feed the hungry?”
Allah created human life with a purposeful test, so Muslims should show gratitude through worship, service, steadfastness, repentance, and preparation for Ramadan rather than becoming attached to temporary worldly comfort.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens by stressing gratitude for Allah's creation, safety, and blessings.
- Argues that life and death have a purpose: worship, gratitude, and service to others.
- Calls listeners to visit the sick, feed the hungry, help people, and embody Islam through character.
- Frames hardship, global violence, and personal struggle as tests requiring Quran, patience, repentance, and steadfastness.
- Warns against comfort and forgetting that worldly blessings are temporary.
- Urges immediate preparation for Ramadan through Isha, Fajr, Quran, and renewed discipline.
In the khateeb's words
“Her birimiz için Allah bize bir amacı verdi. Ve O, bizlere gözler ve dilimizle He has given us akıl.”
“Do we not visit the sick? Do we not feed the hungry?”
“Şimdi başlamamız gereken şey, bunu yapmadığımızda hazırlanmamız gereken şey. Şimdi başlamamız için, Salat-ı Işâ'ya girecek. salatı'l fecr'e gitmek.”
“Bu dünya bizim yerimiz değil. ve başka bir yerde değil.”
For the dinner table
Allah gave each of us a purpose and blessed us with abilities, safety, and resources. We show gratitude not only through words, but also by worshipping Allah, caring for people, visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, and helping others. Life includes tests, so we should return to the Quran, remain patient, and seek forgiveness when we fall short. The world is temporary, and comfort should not distract us from our real purpose. With Ramadan approaching, we should begin now by strengthening our prayers, attending Isha and Fajr, and reconnecting with the Quran.
- What is one gift Allah gave you that you can use to help someone?
- Who could our family visit, call, or help this week?
- What Ramadan habit can you start before Ramadan begins?
