Trust Allah instead of fearing people

“We should only have fear of Allah.”

The khateeb, at 31:02

Muslims should honor the blessing of Jumu'ah through sincere practice, reject fear-driven erasure of their identity, protect themselves and their families, and trust Allah alone.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today the Imam reminded us that Jumu'ah has always been the special day Allah chose for people to gather and worship, and that Allah made it easy for us: only a short time each week. He asked us to value that blessing by showing up, and by sitting quietly and really listening during the khutbah instead of talking or using our phones. Because today is September 11, he talked about how scared many Muslims became after 2001, so scared that some tried to hide that they were Muslim. He explained that bullies pick on people they think are weak, that we have the right to protect ourselves and our families, and that we should never let fear make us ashamed of our faith. Most of all, he reminded us that nothing can help or harm us unless Allah allows it, so the only one we should truly fear is Allah. Our real goal is to live, and one day die, in a way that pleases Him.

  1. What is one thing you can do to listen better during the khutbah next Friday?
  2. Have you ever felt like hiding something about being Muslim, and what could help you feel proud instead?
  3. What does it mean to you that nothing can harm us unless Allah allows it?
